Simplest Crock Stew....ever

This here is one of those recipes I never EVER would have tried if I glanced at the recipe card instead of tasting it firsthand.

My mother-in-law made it and it was so delicious I asked for the recipe...then she gave it to me and I about had a heart attack.

SURELY, it COULDN'T be that simple. SURELY-a recipe like that couldn't produce the wonderfully melded stew I was consuming at present. But it could! And DOES!

2-3 large sized potatoes, sliced
2-3 medium carrots, sliced
1 can of peas, drained (or frozen-like I use)
3 medium onions, sliced
1 1/2 pounds ground beef, browned
2 stalks celery, sliced
1 10 ounce can tomato soup
1 10 ounce can water

Brown the beef while you are slicing the veggies. Then layer first six ingredients in order listed into your handy dandy crockpot.

Mix a can of tomato soup and a can of water and POUR over everything. Season with salt and pepper if you like.

THEN~ the hard part. Turn the crockpot on low and leave it alone. For 6-8 hours. (Or turn it on HIGH for 2-4)

What a simple meal! And very delicious. But don't take MY word for it...

Fantastically wonderful!
I love stew, B., not so much. I knew I liked it, but when he kept saying "this is really good.", I knew we had a winner.
This would be great for a party- easy to double, and very filling.
Just make sure your crockpot is big enough.

My mom makes a version of this called "Meatball Stew." (In fact, Beck and I both made it the same night this past week! We copy dinner plans from each other.) Mom found it in a Campbell's soup cookbook years ago, and I bet it's the same recipe. It's almost the same as your mother-in-law's, only it has meatballs in place of the ground beef, a pinch of thyme, and half a package of dry onion soup seasoning in it, as well. Oh, and no peas, but after seeing this recipe, I think I might add some next time. Oh, and one large onion instead of three medium.

Okay, so maybe it's not the same recipe, but it DOES call for a can of tomato soup AND it's super-yummy. I vouch for your recipe, Rich Kitchen. And now readers can take your, Mrs. Bonnie's, and my word for it!

You are making me look like a superstar to my husband and kids. I tried the blueberry spice jam before and now this. My husband went back for seconds. I have to admit that I wondered if something so simple could be any good but there you are. It is. Thanks!
